It was an overcast August day when Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation deployed crews to demolish six old foundations on either side of the channel under the Galveston causeway.

Boats were coming from all around to watch the action, lining up in a row so that everyone could see.

27825-Brown Pelican * This pelican was staying well under the radar screen while patrolling the boats.

27834-Boom * Finally, the explosions began and moved across the base of the old causeway, blasting the foundations that were left from the previous demolition that brought down the upper structure. Water sprayed high in the air and smoke rose from the water surface. * 720 x 373 * (65KB)
